about

I keep hearing this song in a weird hybrid of a sci-fi movie, either at the beginning or the end, fading out or fading in. That's because the lyric in here leaves you wondering and the story in the song never fully resolves. Deep down the listener can identify with an understanding, but it eludes them. I try to focus on getting bass and percussion tones out of my acoustic guitar early in the tracking stage. I believe the multi-harmonic acoustic tones above and below the main lick of this song carry any message deep. I finish here with a bigger ending than the beginning I start with. Leads and vocal stylings are minimal to let the essence of the full range of the acoustic sounds pile on and that makes this song very approachable. This song is the first one off the record that people express identification with.

SPIRAL ARM
Words and Music © 2012 Desmond Grundy (SOCAN)

I woke up along the spiral arm.
Left my suit of clothes back on the farm.
Putting seeds in the ground, I set out to find my way.
Left my home to be a alone, found myself, then I couldn’t stay, alone.

There’s a light within me I can’t see.
Tells me that I’m only frequency.
Planting seeds in my mind, now I'm a coloured glow.
Leave my brain, look again, see the seed begin to grow. At home.

I got a plan to save the world.
Exactly the way you want it to be.
Ships are coming down for sure.
Nothing’s gonna’ stop this now.

I nod my head at things I understand.
Hold my nose and try to be a man.
Throwing thoughts, catching rocks. I know what you’re trying to say.
Hurting them is hurting me. We’re all one anyway.

Sittin' in a cafe on the dark side of the moon.
I was holding forth on Capricorn and sunny afternoons.
Car drives up, you get out, come in and take a seat.
Taking up where we left off, change my world and never miss a beat.

I got a plan to save the world.
Exactly the way you want it to be.
Ships are coming down for sure.
Nothing’s gonna’ stop this now.

Tell them about us. Make the news.
Tell everyone. It’s the truth.
Tell them about us.
We’re from the stars.

Love is the plan to save the world.
